Some guidelines when placing animated logos, banners and presentations on the web
There are a couple of rules when placing an interactive logo on your website:
  1. Most of all keep it simple:
    • Don\'t have fifty million little bells and whistles going off at once
    • Be aware that this might get lost in translation to the average web surfer
  2. When creating an animated logo:
    • If you are using a program like Flash, be sure to convert it to a gif
    • Even better practice would be to create a shape tween within Illustrator, then import to photoshop layers then send to imageready to save optimized as gif
  3. The reason you should use gif format:
    • Because many users that frequent your website might not have the proper plugin when landing on your site
    • Many of these types of non-savvy web surfers are probably lazy and will opt to not install a plugin and look at your naked website
    • A website without a logo is like an office worker that goes to work without pants
  4. This Next Advice is for Banner Ads
    • I was working with an agency once that created a really complicated animation with too much text, that moved too quickly from frame to frame
    • A peice of advice which will give the most bang for the buck
    • Trying and give the flow control to the user by making interactivity to \"on-mouseover\" or \"on-click\" scripting
  5. By God not everyone reads as fast as you do
    • Please keep this in mind when you decide to repurpose the entire novel of \"War and Peace\" into your 100px x 100px banner
    • As it is moving warp speed your online audience is not going to stick around to read the content as it cycles through at warp speed
    • If you are creating a banner or a presentation that cycles through automatically try and keep it at a moderate pace and always give the viewer the option to click back in the amount the have missed some important content
  6. That is all for now
  7. When shopping around for a graphic design company please be sure that they are informed of how certain production habits can cascade down to your potential leads or clients; this can make or break your online conversions
