  • Thank God The Blog Craze Is Almost Over

Blogging as a business fad seems to be passing – and that’s a good thing.

Now maybe people will settle down and look at a blog, at using a blog for business, for what it is. Just another, albeit powerful, marketing tool.

Yes, every business needs a blog, not so they can say they have one, so they can finally say something because they have one. Now I’m not saying that you can’t have open and transparent conversations with your clients and prospects through other means, I’m just saying that people don’t.

Stop worrying what you blog is doing, stop worrying if you are making any money with your blog, stop wondering where you can find the time to post and just keep writing. Nothing to sexy about that, but it works.

Get past the hype and start learning how to integrate a blog into your entire core marketing message. No blog is an island!

    • Business blogging hasn't even started yet.

We're in the early adopter phase.

There's only between 4% and 12% that even know what they are, depending on which survey you believe, so it cannot be anywhere near over.

Business' will be blogging in even greater numbers by the end of '06 and more in '07.

Most fortune 500 CEO's are too stupid to figure out what a blog is and corporate IT's are just barely above that.

Small business is leading the way and the big boys will swoop in like Al Gore and take all the credit within 12 months.
    • Well said!

The worst biz blogs are the "we'd better start a blog" blog. Blogs need to be part of the business strategy - not something to just be done with no forethought or planning!
    • We've been encouraging the companies in the homeschool market to blog and they are already seeing improved sales on their sites as readers are getting to know them better through their blogs!
    • Kudos to you for spelling it out - blogs are the most cost-effective marketing tools for small business ... ever!
    • I've been really lucky with my blog-- I wrote as often as possible, and I seem to get a fair amount of visitors. Every once in a while, I write a post that gets noticed, and gets press. And I just love that. The whole blogging thing is really pushing my company forward and I like that my clients and business associates see me as transparant-- and I like that I read more and more and am able to take the best and write about it. I am hooked!
    • Isn't it interesting to look at past posts and see how relevant they are in today's terms? I think this one is still standing true. I totally agree that your blog shouldn't be your only marketing message but it should be a part of it.

Also, when I stopped worrying about the things you mention above, and started worrying about quality, original (ie. thinking for myself) content I really starting seeing my blog come to life.
