  • What’s the Best Job In America?

MONEY Magazine published its annual “Best Jobs” issue and I can’t believe “small business marketing coach” didn’t crack the top 10. Here’s my take – especially if you own a small business or are thinking of starting one.

The best job in America is one you love. That’s the secret to success in your business you know. If you are going to work 80 hours a week, lose sleep, and wonder how you are going to make payroll – you better love what you are doing or it will kill you.

Loving your work is a great sales tool too. I can tell when someone is truly enthusiastic about what they do, and usually, that enthusiasm is contagious – I want some of what they have.

MONEY’s survey makes pay a critical factor. Loving what you do probably doesn’t (although I bet you make a lot more money doing something you love.) There is a guy that tends to an incredible rose garden I pass through on my morning runs. He impresses me as one of the happiest human beings alive. He clearly loves his work. I only hope his employer appreciates what a good marketing function this employee performs.

Okay, here’s the top 10 in case your interested!

MONEY Magazine and Salary.com researched hundreds of jobs, considering their growth, pay, stress-levels and other factors. These careers ranked highest.

    Top 10 best jobs
    1. Software Engineer
    2. College professor
    3. Financial adviser
    4. Human Resources Manager
    5. Physician assistant
    6. Market research analyst

    7. Computer IT analyst
    8. Real Estate Appraiser
    9. Pharmacist
    10. Psychologist
