  • The White Paper Marketing Handbook

Bob Bly is the author of over 75 books and is probably best known for his copywriting skills. I spent some time catching up with Bob on the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast discussing his most recent book – The White Paper Marketing Handbook.

Any reader of mine will likely already know of my affection for using information products as a way to generate interest from a prospect. Bly’s book is the first and only devoted entirely to this subject. Bob calls this approach “Edu-marketing.” Whatever you call it, you need to employ it.

    • I'm surprised a blogger would even talk to Bob, especially a business blogger, after reading his views on business blogs :

      Mike,

Now, that's just silly. Not talk to someone because I don't happen to share or understand his opinion on a specific issue? What a shame that would be.

Bob Bly has earned the right to an opinion (doesn't mean he's right, but he has stored way more right up than wrong in the marketing world, so he can make withdrawls all he wants.) You should find out more about his work before you simply take his writings out of context.

What purpose is served by calling him stupid on your blog while admitting that you don't really know much about his work.

You can easily make a case for what both of you beleive about blogs - it's all relative.

Sometimes you can learn the most from those you don't always agree with.
    • Thanks for standing up for bloggers John.

I'll not say what I really feel about this comment on your own blog.

Go back to sleep before you do blogging another disservice.

" You've got to stand for something, or you'll be good for nothing. "

      Mike,

Your reaction is exactly what gives blogging the bad rap it gets - people who think it needs defending like it's some kind of religion. It's just another marketing tool - if someone bad mouthed PR or direct mail because it didn't work for them would you feel the need to come all unglued.
    • I'm not sure I'm big enough to be the cause of blogging getting a bad rap, ( nice to think I'm all powerful though ) but I'm big enough to say that Bob's words will do more harm than mine.

Seems EVERY comment, link and Trackback agree with me, too. Unanimous.

You're just sticking up for him because you've heard more about him than you have about me.

Status quo is an ugly thing when you're on the wrong side. And you are.

And yes, if they make statements as foolish as he did about any part of marketing, and I find out about it, I'll be there to shoot it down. It's part of the service I offer, versus your agreeing with anything and everything.

I'm not scared of the truth. Nor am I scared to point out fallacy.

We now know you won't help, so we'll not bother asking.

Believe me, I may speak about you, but I won't bother speaking to you.
