Is It Time to Declare Your Idependence?

Pamela Sims writes a blog called Escape from Cubicle Nation. In part, the blog encourages people who dream about starting their own business to go ahead and “Declare their Independence.”

Here site features a wonderful little flash video that she aptly titled: Declare Your Independence. Her’s is a cause that I can relate to. More and more people are waking everyday and deciding they’ve had enough and this is the year they are going to take the leap.

Owning you own business is freedom – maybe sometimes it’s the freedom to work any 80 hours a week you choose, but nothing feeds the soul like work that you are passionate about.

Great job Pamela!

Pam did a great job with her presentation . . . without using a single bullet point! What we entered a new era? A bullet point free zone? We can only hope!

    Pam,

I’ve had one of these movies sitting in my brain for about 6 months now – you inspired me to get that thing out there.

    Hi John!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am really happy that you enjoyed the movie.

From a marketing perspective, I have been really pleased to see how powerful a Flash movie can be for conveying messages that have emotional content. You can only go so far with words. I have been influenced by Garr Reynolds of Presentation Zen … fewer words and strong images are so much more powerful than a slide jammed with bullet points.

I will continue to stay tuned to this excellent blog for marketing advice.

    All the best,
    -Pam

    Hi Ben:

I guess it all depends on your perspective. I have been an entrepreneur for a decade and have worked very hard – but don’t feel lots of mental stress. Stimulation yes, stress no. It was much more stressful being an employee and wondering when the next merger would wipe out my job, or the new VP would change everything I was working on just to make a statement. Self-employment is not for everyone, I totally agree. But for the right person, it is like a huge gust of fresh, creative air. That was the type of person I was targeting in my movie.

John: Go for it! Can’t wait to see yours. :)

    All the best,
    -Pam

Owing a own business definitely makes you feel independent at the financial level but you cant even imagine the mental stress one undergoes being an enterpreneurer. Atleast i believe nothing is more than your mental independence, its hard to survive without it, so i dont think its a nice idea for me atleast.
