  • You Mean, You Don’t Have a Favicon?

One of the great things about small businesses is that they can do little things to give the same big time impression that firms employing branding teams can give. Here’s one of those little things, still a bit unknown, that you can jump on.

A favicon is short for Favorites Icon and is that little icon that you may see to the left of a URL when you bookmark it in Internet Explorer and most feed readers or, if you have made the switch to Firefox, in the browser bar left of the URL you are visiting. The favicon for this site is

So, bookmark this site and you will eventually see this icon in your favorites menu (That wasn’t too obvious was it?). Or, switch to Firefox and you can see them at every site you surf to.

The point of this post though is to encourage you to get a favicon for your site. I know it’s a little thing, but I think it sends a big message and adds to the overall branding of your business.

Setting up a favicon for your site is pretty simple, but there are some technical details unique to this tool. I could explain it all here, but I’ve found a great post from a very readable blog called Pajama Market that will give you what you need to Create Your Favicon.

    • Very true - but frankly, I think your own favicon could be more poignant.
I suggest some added loose end would clarify that "duct tape" thing more. Now it looks like an old fashioned LP to me.
Anyway, thumbs up for your blog! Bye Christian
    • Thanks for the mention John. "very readable" will make my 8th grade English teacher quite proud. Keep up the good work.

What's more poignant than an understated roll of Duct Tape, that's what it is you know, but maybe if that's not clear, it's not working for me. More on this!

      Brian,

That's a big compliment for a blog, you know! Plus, how many times can I say awesome!
    • Lol, I hate how comments and email tend towards sarcasm when none was intended. I was actually serious..."very readable" IS going to impress my 8th grade english teacher.

You see, I'm good friends with my 8th grade english teacher. He was a small influence on my getting involved with website design and internet marketing several years ago. He taught me more about writing than anyone I've ever met, and encouraged in the direction of using those skills on the internet.

Looking back on the comment, it totally sounds sarcastic, but it was quite sincere. I agree that "very readable" IS a great compliment. This tells me that a post on "what you right may not be taken the way you meant it" might be in order.

      Cheers.
