  • Build Web Site Traffic With Free Tools

One of the fastest ways to build traffic for a web site is to offer something of value for free. Now lots of people offer free reports, white papers and newsletters. Those are all great tools and I often recommend creating them.

But, once you have those in place it’s time to take your traffic building power up a notch by creating and offering free tools. Essentially, this takes shape in the form of something your target market can use over and over again, preferably by coming back to your web site to do so. Another benefit of a valuable free tool on your site is that often other sites will link to it.

I host a free Press Release creation tool that is one of the most visited pages on my site. (Hint: These free tools can generate some ad revenue too.)

Software, templates, forms, and calculators all make great starting places for the creation of a tool for your site. Screencasts and videos showing people how to do something very specific are also great.

Use your imagination, go out there and search around a bit and then find out what your target market wants and create it, host it, and spread it.

    • John,
As always you share your wealth of information. Great Tips, I appreciate what you do for us "the little guys".
    • I'm in the process of converting our top 15 guest blogging articles of our first year into an eBook as a hook for new members to join our site (for free). We were able to get an editor to sponsor the editing process (since not all blog posts are top notch at times in the grammar department!) and that was great, we'll also add affiliate links and a few ads too...and we'll have a professionally designed cover too. This is a great way to reuse info new readers may not know about.

      Thanks for a great site,
      Kelly
    • Thanks for the great idea!
    • John,

Love the ideas - especially the press release creator.

Also, I second the idea on the widget. I use Widgetbox to host my WikiOutdoors widget. And, at JumpUp, we provide visibility to our members and fresh content to other sites with a Small Business Spotlight widget. Keep the great ideas coming! Kira

John - You're the man. As one of your commenter's said - thanks for watching out for the little guys. Take care.
