    Automatic Blog Posts with delicious

Consider subscribing to my blog's RSS feed. It's sticky

deliciousThe delicious bookmarking tool has a fairly little known feature that bloggers can take advantage of. With the right settings you can have delicious post your bookmarks to your blog once a day as content. Here’s an example post links for 2007-07-27 | nicharalambous.com

If you have a delicious account (heavens knows you should) and you want to enable this feature log in go to settings >> blogging >> daily blog posting. You can activate it putting blog’s username and password and Post URL (If you use WordPress it’s something like http://www.yourdomain.com/blog/xmlrpc.php)

Once you have this set-up, every time you bookmark in delicious it will be collected and posted to your blog as that day’s collection of links. Because you are making these public it’s a good idea to write good descriptions when you book mark. You also want to remember that anything you bookmark will show up on your blog, so if you don’t want it to you need to make sure you click the don’t make public box.

Too much of this would be pretty boring, but it can be a nice way to create dual posts for a day or come up with your a list of themed links around one subject for a Friday post.

Del.icio.us is great to have as a sidebar widget, as useful resources or links. I use one created through widgetbox.com.

Another cool widget is to use CoComment.com, which released out of beta today. It captures the comments we make around the web (like this one) and posts it in a widget for our own blog.

This way we can stroke our own ego (and add value to readers, I guess) with all the insightful comments we make around the web. The Firefox plug-in is handy; I can toggle whether or not I want a comment included.

It also creates a dynamic blogroll of the blogs we read & comment on… like this one!

Hi, Thanks for the comment and the link on your blog!! Much appreciated!

Del.icio.us is a a great service and one that people should be making use of.
i do find though that with the blog post option, if you don’t blog your own words then you end up with a stream of delicious posts on your blog, which is not great!!

You must be careful not dilute your blog with too many delicious posts if your a regular user.

An alternative is to feed your delicious directly into your RSS feed using Feedburner. That way your blog still looks good and your readers get some extra stuff.

What would be really cool is a WordPress plugin that allows you post your delicious bookmarks once a week/month etc.
