Search is big, right, you know that. Why not create your own search engine using Google’s Custom Search. Custom Search allows you to use the Google search engine as designed by you. You get to determine what is indexed and what gets shown. I hacked together a very simple marketing related search engine I called GoGetMarketing to demonstrate this tool.
In this case I actually created a unique website and am hosting my own search engine. This could be a really great approach for people who want to create very narrow niche search tool that could provide hand picked results based on your own network of bookmarked sights - this could be far more beneficial than what Google would index and return.
Custom search would be a great way to create a local search engine and improve your local search results. You can manage all the sites indexed in your custom search engine or even give access to contributors to edit the site in your engine.
In addition, this tool allow you to place custom search on your own site or blog and create your own search on your site or easily include every blog on your blogroll in the search results.

Google Gustome search is awesome. I built a search engine that only indexes blogs written by other real estate and mortgage professionals. I add blogs as I come across them.
From the standpoint of my readers, it’s far more useful than guessing from a long list of links in my blogroll as to who might be able to provide the information they are looking for.
Interesting. Is this different from the customized Google Search engine you can create through Google AdSense? I believe with AdSense Search you can also specify the sites which visitors can search from?
Asako,
I do think this is a different as you can also assign editors to help find and add sites to your engine. They also have a business version that can be purchased without any ads.
Thank you John. That does sound different. I added Google Search through AdSense, then, took it out in the past, because I do not want ads to be listed - not reader friendly.
[...] Google custom search [...]
The thing that frusturates me with google custom search, is the underlining problem with all search engines, and that is how can you trust the credibility of the business that is at the top of the search, or even on the first page? Google is GREAT for information, but when it comes to attempting to purchase products and services, it is time consuming, and a huge head ache!
