I get requests for this little how to frequently so I thought I would create a quick 3 step screencast that shows you how to publish a list of events on your web page or blog using RSS and Google Calendar. In this video I used Google Calendar and Feedburner to publish a calendar of events in a list form. The advantage of this is that anyone you give access to your calendar can update your web page (great for groups) and once an event occurs it drops off the page automatically. The results for this lesson can be found on my workshop page.

Another very timely tip! A long-time customer just requested an easy-to-update calendar feature for his web site. This fits the bill perfectly.

And I'll bet you could use the same technique to add the headline of your most current blog posts to the static home page of any web site.

You are right you can use this same technique to publish any feed really. So you could set-up a google news search for an industry or topci and publish the changing results of that RSS feed too.

I've been looking for a calendar program and had settled on a subscription site which really didn't do the job. Thanks John, not only is Google Calendar free, you gave me several ideas to make my calendar page on my friends vacation rental home site more useful.

Wow. this is good stuff. We put current events on our Promotional parties web site currently, but through an old-school method that is time consuming and cumbersome. This is so easy, it's perfect. Now if I can figure out the easy process to get it on the site I'll be thrilled. Stay tuned.

I used your instructions on my blog for a while and really liked the way it worked. Today I added a whole lot of information to my Google calendar and the feed changed from showing the next few events to showing the last events entered. That just didn't work.

Google Calendar has new options next to the 'Embed This Calendar' dialogue. Using that, I was able to create an HTML feed for the agenda of my calendar that is very customizeable. Now instead of a list of 5 or 6 events, my users can scroll through the whole calendar as well as subscribe to the calendar if they use GCal. Thanks for this John. I've used this tip to make an RSS feed of a calendar someone else in the country runs (with their permission) and pass on the RSS details through my blog. All very neat.

Hey John.

I used your great advice and technique to create exactly as you set out in your own site. An events calendar list that was being fed from Google calendar. You can view the list here.

One small set back I experienced and have not found any solution to is the event details page that you get to when clicking through on an event title. Despite properly configuring time zones in both calendar locations to Toronto EST, the default time zone is incorrect (5 hours ahead) unless logged in.

Have you experienced or heard anything like this? Google groups has a few other people with similar problem but no solutions on offer as of yet.

How did you fix this once Google bought Feedburner and did away with the Event Feed? It's driving me insane. Thanks for the video... an update on how you got this to work on your site so smoothly would save me some hair loss. :)
