I heard about Kiva on CNBC, and saw a backstory about a woman who was able to purchase more inventory for her local store. It was amazing... by simply obtaining $100, she was able to substantially increase in monthly income.

Having lived in Africa for almost 10 years, I see the power in micro-financing...the smallest amounts CAN make a huge difference to people. It's exciting to watch people from rich cultures sharing in the joy of giving to people in poorer cultures (economically poorer that is) who often share the same excitement for providing for their families...I met so many resourceful people, who did amazing things with very little capital, that I was certain they would do great things with a little boost. Starting up a business is certainly a huge hurdle...now if we could get the Duct Tape Marketing principles into their hands (and perhaps a somewhat modified version for their culture and economic situation).** The Duct Tape Marketing principles are so unique and seems like they could help people worldwide.

**I will note that in the country where I served it was so common in the local market to see 10 women ALL selling the SAME fish, peanuts, onions or tomatoes. When I inquired why they don't differentiate...I was told that such an idea would disrupt the community those women enjoy...a culture no-no...perhaps Differentiate and Dominate might not be the most appropriate title! ha !
