I never considered backing up my blog. I'm using shared web hosting and Wordpress so I don't see why I can't make this happen. If any of you think it's impossible, please let me know before I try it and find out this for myself.

The backup isn't just good for backups alone - it's also how you can move to another web host. I just signed up for HostMonster and had 3 outages (that I know of) in 3 days. So I'm moving my wordpress site to another host.

The MySQL backup is ESSENTIAL for moving the site.

Businesses (whether blogs, or non-internet-based businesses) live or die by their data. Losing everything could amount to losing everything. I prefer off-site backups, as they protect against something catastrophic happening in the office / home.

For those of us on Blogger, CodePlex Blogger Backup by Greg Duncan is great. He's very accessible and always adding new functionality.

Thanks I will check that plug-in out - I'm for anything that automates a process.
