Reality CheckGuy Kawasaki stopped by the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast to discuss his newest book Reality Check: The Irreverent Guide to Outsmarting, Outmanaging, and Outmarketing Your Competition.

Reality Check is a compilation of some of Guy’s greatest hits, posts and articles, but it is not simply a rehashing. This format brings his down to earth style into much greater overall context. When you read one of Guy’s blog posts you get his thoughts at that moment, but a collection of his posts framed in a category, makes for a much more strategic read.

The thing I love the most about his book is that you can plop it open to any page and just start reading. You don’t have to read it cover to cover, every single page seems to hold a nugget of great, or at least amusing, advice.

Some of Guy’s gems include the 10,20,30 rule of presentations – no more than 10 slides, delivered in 20 minutes, no type smaller than 30 point. Or, sales fixing everything – get selling and worry about creating the sock puppets when you have cash flow. Go check it out!

    • Isn't Guy amazing? I met him several times and talk with him occasionally on Twitter. At Blog World Expo, he spoke casually at a luncheon. He's such a down-to-earth guy who masks his brilliance until you open a book like this one and start reading. He's like a little boy in a toy store looking through 7 year old eyes at the toys of the business world that are his greatest playing field. Thanks for featuring him. I so look forward to seeing what he will bring us in the next few years. Isn't Alltop brilliant?

    • I loved "The Art of the Start" and have followed his 10, 20, 30 rule of presentations for a while now. I'm excited to read this new book since I haven't had a chance to get to his other books yet, so a compilation of his best work will be the perfect way to catch up and learn more from Guy.
    • Yes, I agree - I loved “The Art of the Start” as well. Every online business owner should read this book.
    • I'm actually just starting to write my thesis on a similar topic about small businesses and ebusiness. This book might have some good insights. Has anyone here ready it yet? If so, would it be considered as an academic book to reference? I'm just looking for good books from different views on small business. Would this be good?
    • Guy rocks! This book really opened my eyes to planning my website more like a business than just a hobby, thats just a personal realization but i guess everyone gets something personal out of it :)
