  • I Want to Feature Your Referral Story

I’ve just inked a deal with Portfolio to write a book on the use of referrals in marketing.

I plan to feature about a dozen in-depth real-life business stories of SMBs successfully implementing word of mouth and referral strategies and tactics.

I would love to hear from my SMB readers (PR firms too) if you think your have a great referral story. I’m really after something that has some creative bite to it so I can go deep and specific. Please don’t just suggest that you get all your business through referrals because you provide good service.

If you have a suggestion, your business or someone else you know, send me an email and pitch me on your idea.

This could prove to be a great opportunity and a bit of fun in the process.

    Thanks!

    • Peter Shankman of HARO is the first one that comes to mind.
    • I just wanted to say congrats on your book deal and I look forward to new tips and ideas in the future.
    • Mr. John, where can I find your book about the referral you tell in this article? I think if I can make a wordpress theme business with referral system, not only with affilate system, I wonder to collaborate both of them, but is it possible to do?
    • Congratulations on the book deal John. I'll pass the word around in our office and see if there might be something we could send your way.
    • Could try Chris Hughes, Guy Kawasaki, Brian Clark, Michael Arrington, Rand Fishkin, and there are others?

Clayton Makepeace has a referral program at makepeacetotalpackage dot com that you may want to look at.

As a copywriter, Clayton has been calle a "master closer in print." His free ezine The Total Package shows why. Every article delivers a powerful punch that can rocket the response (and revenue) of any reader who will follow his advice.

He recently introduced a referral program to his readers. By simply doing things like posting a youtube video and emailing people sending them to his referral page, readers can get selected info products for free. And they have a chance to win any product he sells. A referral program and contest in one!

I think it's brilliant. Check it out and see what you think.
    • Because people/businesses tend to keep track of their referrals and especially the referrers you can use referral in order to get that person or business interested in your services. Basic online example: Web directory in a particular niche send traffic to random websites in the same niche. Webmasters check their referrers and notice this directory. Because they already know that this directory is capable of sending them the traffic, they are much more likely to buy a listing. etc. Works well offline as well.
