These are great tips, designing a referral system is always good to do so you can know where your referrals are coming from and which sources give the best referrals

I've actually been happily successful in offline business with developing a relatively strong referral program (about 60% of my offline business is through referrals). I've found it more challenging transferring that success to my online ventures. As simple, and obvious, I think I need to start with the turn-key tools! Thanks.

@Anne - yes I think you might want to focus on the end user - many a wholesaler has discovered this idea of pulling sales instead of pushing them by energizing users to the point where they demand that a retailer carry a product - you could use social media tools and networks to get much of this done I suspect. Another focus might be to create tools and training for your retailers to help them improve their overall business - hold workshops and such. One last idea is to form partnerships with other great wholesalers of products and introduce them to your retailers. The key is to be seen as such a valuable resource the competition notion moves down the list.

Hi John, Your referral ideas are energizing and I have been trying to apply them since I read one of your books. However as a wholesaler selling to retailers who each want to be distinctive (don't want anyone else to have the same product mix) I am having trouble. The more they like my product, the less they want to refer. So I am wondering if I need to focus on the end consumer and somehow get them involved in my lead collection process? Any ideas?

This is a great set of tips. Having a system where you automatically and systematically get new referrals is absolutely vital for successful business.
