  • Adding Anchor Text Links to LinkedIn Profiles

    Google Buzz

I wrote a post earlier this week describing ways to optimize your social media profiles to enhance your ability to draw traffic to your web site pages. The holy grail of a link back to your site from a popular social media site like LinkedIn is one that allows you to add your own anchor text to a link – so instead of the URL that the link points you add keyword rich terms to describe what the link points to. This helps search engines understand what the page is about and is a key in getting ranked for that term.

I had several requests to demonstrate how to add links with anchor text to LinkedIn profiles so I did this quick demo below.

Are you sure you get a backlink without a nofollow tag?

I checked on my company profile just no using the seo quake or seo book no follow check and I have a no follow against my company link.

With all these things it seems they like to put no follows a lot of the time
    • These things change frequently as you know, at the time I wrote this it was still true. There are some very good reasons for LinkedIn not to do this, so I'm guessing they caught on.
    • Great info! Thanks. I just added a post on my blog linking to you. I wonder if I can do that for our Oshyn.com group on LinkedIn?

      John,

Thank you for the tip on Anchor Text. I have another question for you....my primary "job" is as the owner of my business, but I have several new "activities" that I want to promote (i.e. training, writing, etc.).

Since I'm beginning to think that my profile is not the best place to list activities, where do you recommend putting these in LinkedIn?
    • Thanks for the information that everyone can do and if utilized its worth lots. West Coast Vinyl
    • I did not know how to do this- how great! thanks
    • Thanks John. Appreciate the demo. Great idea and very easy to use.

    • I am not a LinkedIn user as of yet, but I have a new venture starting late June and this sound like exactly what I need to get a boost. I appreciate the demonstration it looks easy enough to accomplish. Thanks for recommending a great tool like this. :)

    • very cool. why aren't more people doing this?!
    • Great tip. Instead of just linking my site, ohmygov.com, I actually typed in government news and humor. But I'm not sure if those are the right keywords I want to link. Is there a better way to determine what keywords to choose? Can you do the same thing on Facebook?
    • Thanks, so simple, yet I didn't know that :)
