John - agreed on the free model thought. I love the approach that 37signals takes, and I hope that more young entrepreneurs would pay attention to companies like them.

PS - I just signed up for the premium version to take the new feature for a test ride. Just spent 45 minutes tagging people I want to follow up with, so I think it's a pretty useful feature.

Agree! Twitter, so far, is a notable co trapped in free. Another great example of effective free-to-revenue conversion is YouSendIt.

I think the free model has trapped some firms when they try to go to premium and make some money - 37signals is the poster child for figuring out how to make money right out of the gate.

Its been interesting to see what direction LinkedIn is taking to monetize its large freemium subscription base. This new feature confirms they are following their premium users (I am guessing most of them are in sales) down the sales and marketing tool path. I fully expect integration to salesforce.com and some of the marketing automation players in the not-too-distant future.

Ari - it just offers a lot more internal communications options - particularly when trying to reach out to people you are not connected to.
