One of the keys to success in building a fan base with your Facebook efforts is to consistently add great content and engagement. One of my favorite ways to do that is through the use of applications. Applications are either Facebook or 3rd Party built tools that allow your to add functionality to Facebook.

For this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing podcast I visited with Tyler Willis, the Director of Marketing of Involver. Involver has developed a suite of tools and an application that makes it very easy to add content and engagement tools to Facebook Fan Pages.

When you visit the Duct Tape Marketing Fan page you will see a YouTube, Twitter and Poll tab. These are all powered by Involver and in my opinion offer one of the easiest ways to bring this kind of content to Facebook. There are many other options, including coupons, RSS Feeds, file sharing, Flickr, and sign-up forms that can help you build your brand on Facebook and add functionality that helps you sell.

Involver has a free and paid version and while the free version is robust, it does limit you to two add-ons. Currently, this is one of my favorite applications for business on Facebook.

involver looks great. John, thanks for so much useful info.
    • Content is King and Linking is Queen.

With the use of these applications definitely helps to make the best of both worlds.
    • It's great to see tools like this. More small and large businesses are building fan pages to engage their customers but issues like generating content seems like a high-bar to most.
    • I tried Involver and I am still trying to figure what it is that you like so much. The applications are very limited, even if you pay the ridiculous price for the premium version.

For example, take a look at branding. If you pay for the premium you can upload a logo....in fixed size. If, for example, you want to conserve some space for content you are out of luck. I asked about this on GetSatisfaction over a month ago. No answer. How hard could that possibly be to change?

How about the Youtube app? Why can't you select which videos are featured?

Why does the RSS application shove the full link into the headline? Don't you think that looks a little amateurish?

And they want how much a month? For that price, they could browse GetSatisfaction once or twice a week and answer some questions.
