In this issue: Add your articles to the Duct Tape Marketing Article Directory Featured Resource #1 - Microsoft Small Business Summit Mark your calendar. Entering its third year, the Microsoft Small Business Summit, a nationwide, online event that runs for four days is coming. This year it runs from March 24 through March 27. Summit registrants can participate online from home or office. I have been asked to kick the summit off with a session on small business marketing so I hope that lots of Duct Tape Marketing readers will be joining me live online on March 24th at 9am PDT! The summit offers advice from entrepreneurial peers and small business experts on topics ranging from sales, marketing, productivity, mobility, security, financial management and startups.
The summit is free and registration is open now. Make sure to register even if you can’t make the live events as you will get access to the archived recordings months after the event. Featured Article 7 Steps to Consistent Referral Generation
One of the keys to tapping the systematic generation of referrals is to identify and address the customer touch points that add up to lead a customer to the logical and emotional decision that your organization is referable. I say this often, but it’s worth repeating - every person, place and thing in your business that comes into contact with a prospect or a customer is performing a marketing function. Your organization’s referability is being decided by the sum total of those contacts. It’s so important to figure out the critical stages involved in developing a customer and then fill the gaps in every contact - by fill I mean, make sure that every contact is a marketing contact - and that includes things like delivery, customer service, even billing. The 7 Stages and logical touch points along this customer referral life cycle look something like this.
I suggest creating a diagram consisting of the stages above and mapping out every touch point you have or should have before you ever start dreaming about a world flooded with referrals. Featured Resource #3 - Agency Quality StockLayouts
One of the quickest ways to create high impact stationary, brochures, ads, newsletters and product sheets is to grab a collection from StockLayouts. There are lots of template designs available but these are by far the best you can find. You won’t find yourself thinking these design look like templates - don’t forget to browse around and find designs for your specific industry. Featured Reading - Awakening the Entrepreneur Within - Michael Gerber
Companies that embrace this practice can become extraordinary by pushing beyond what they thought it meant to run a company. Michael wrote the foreword to Duct Tape Marketing and I consider him my mentor. Just go get his book! He was a guest on my Coaching Excellence Series. Listen to what he had to say Featured Listening - Solo Acoustic #2 - Jackson Browne This is a follow-up to Browne's Solo Acoustic #1 of course and to me it adds even more to the very stripped down collection of his songs. I enjoy the banter he participates in as much as the music. Some might say this is just an aging musician trying to resell old songs, but the songs in both of these solo albums take on new life as Browne gets to display his piano and guitar playing abilities outside of the studio setting. Songs on this album span his career including several from his first album Saturate Before Using. |
